Story

It was around the time that PJ Harvey was touring in Feb 2008 that I knew I needed to try and meet more of the girls in rock and a lot of people had been telling me the same. Problem was, there just didn’t appear to be many coming out here, and then I found out that PJ Harvey was going to be around. She was playing at the Sydney Opera house so I got this painting ready for her as well as a duplicate painting to offer to PJ.

I arrived at the venue and waited for about 2 hours, when I first saw PJ walk out of a kind if secret entrance door, I was alone and PJ was with a small group of people, I tried to see if it was PJ and like an idiot, I messed up, I became nervous and wasn’t certain it was her, so I stood there in silence as she walked past me and I watched her get into the all familiar ‘rock star’ mode of transport, it was then that I was yelling at myself inside for making a mess of it ! Im always doing this, so many times I have made this silly mistakes. Suffice to say PJ Harvey was driven away, though I knew at some point she’d have to return for the nights gig.

About 2 hours later, she did return. This time I saw the car come towards the hidden door. As PJ got out the other side of the car I was standing on a lady got out my side and saw me with the painting as I was calling over to PJ, who didn’t look over at all and kept walking down some slight alleyway at of my view. The lady stopped to talk to me, she liked my work but apologised on JPL’s behalf telling me that PJ just didn’t have time right now, I thought that was it, friends had also told me that PJ doesn’t stop for fans very often, id heard she was shy and wasn’t really one craving attention. However a good twist of fate happened for me. As PJ took the hidden walk way to the door it turned out that entry was locked and so she had to come back and walk past me to take the alternative entry, she appeared around the corner I was so pleased and I called her as she walked right up to pass me and enter, I held out the painting to get her attention and she finally looked up and even seemed to be pleased as well as surprised when I told her I had a gift for her. She gave me plenty of time then, smiled and was so beautiful to me, she autographed my painting with a great signature and all the while was saying ‘thankyou, thankyou so much’ as I gave her the painting to keep. She walked inside admiring the work, it was a great feeling. Thanks PJ ! Your fabulous.
