Story
I’ve been listening to John Mellencamp ever since I was first introduced to his music at 14 when my Uncle used to play his music all the time. I see John as a very American icon of music who in my opinion hasn’t dissapointed in his music since he started. He toured Australia during November 08 and I was certainly going to try to meet up with him. You’d think he would be relatively easy to meet, however I was proven very wrong. First I found myself waiting for a flight that never arrived, later learning he had chosen to take a private jet for his arrival into Sydney, so after 3 hours I headed to his hotel and waited. I saw members of Johns band and crew and was sure at some point id see the man himself, this never happened after yet another 3 hours, I decided to quit for the night and try again the following evening. So yet again I waited, this time I was seeing nothing and I was then being informed that John was in a different hotel, id now wasted 6 hours waiting in the wrong place, my feet and legs were killing me!
The next evening I made my way to the now supposed correct hotel and began to wait. This night was show night for John so I was hoping to see him sometime soon, yet nothing was happening, I was feeling like again I was in the wrong place when all of a sudden as I began considering other options, a car turned up and within minutes John Mellencamp was walking out of the front of the hotel. I calmly walked over to him with a friend. We were the only two fans there. John had his hands in his pockets looking very relaxed, he was very quiet and as I raised the painting he knew straight away what I wanted, he took the pen and signed quietly as I thanked him for visiting us in Australia, after signing his hands went straight back into his jacket pockets and I asked for a photo with him and he accepting willingly still with his hands in his pockets. He’s a great guy, very pleasant and approachable.
