Story

When you listen to Grinderman it has all the familiar feel to it that the Bad Seeds deliver yet somehow it sounds different. My wife and I waited for the band at Sydney airport in October 07. They were first off the plane and instantly stood out as a band even if you didn’t know their faces. Least to say there was a lot of hair !

My wife and I were the only two fans waiting to greet them which surprised me, but was also very nice to know, for there wouldn’t be much competition to fight with. The band slowly walked up to us and put their luggage down and admired my painting, Nick was all smiles and laughed whilst admiring my portrayal of Jim, with Jim looking on quietly but smiling. Martyn Casey commented on how he looked different now, his hair was much longer and he’d grown a beard. In my opinion he looked better, more rock ‘n’ roll with all that hair. Warrens beard was the most impressive, I only wish I could grow beard hair that well.

They all signed, and Nick had a very cool slow way of signing, taking his time and really pushing down hard with the pen. Once they had finished they walked away looking very stylish. Later as we left the airport we saw them again, waiting at their car all smoking, car doors open with music blaring out. We stood back and watched trying to recognise the music………..who was it ?, Grinderman of course! Now that was cool and very bizarre to see, Nick was even dancing and singing along, this was real fun to watch, something you definitely don’t expect to see.
