Story
Talking Heads were and still are high on my list of great bands, I was introduced to them by my uncle when I was 14,
I remember at the time in school they were unheard of amongst my friends, I didn’t know anyone in my age group that listened to Talking Heads.
Even today they’ve managed to maintain an alternative following, so much so that when I went out to meet David Byrne in early February 2009, not
one fan was there and even friends id spoken to didn’t know the name, David Byrne so I was pleased to wait for him at the
venue knowing that there would be no competition for an autograph.
I arrived early afternoon, and after a 3 hour wait the all too familiar symptoms were beginning to show as cars dropping of members of David’s band
and crew began to arrive, I was getting ready for the arrival of David but as all the others showed up I saw nothing of him.
For a minute I began to doubt myself and started to feel like I might have seen him amongst the crew with a shaved head! I was sure it was him,
but really with a shaved head?. As I played it over and over in my mind I chose to wait longer.
After a short while a guy came out that was with the band and walked up to the end of the street, I watched him as he stood there looking into the
distance like he was looking out for someone or something, I was confused as to what he was doing. Some 10 minutes later I could see the guy
walking back and he was speaking to someone that I couldn’t see very well due to the glare from the sun. As they got closer I noticed the guy
was talking to someone pushing a bicycle, coming closer to my focus I was surprised to see it was none other that David Byrne!
Wow, id never seen this before, here was the singer of the band arriving without an entourage, just him all alone on a bike. Now I don’t know but
thinking about it at the time and even now, it seemed to be so fittingly right that David Byrne might do something like this. I asked if he would
sign my painting and as he tackled his bike he took the pen and signed, unfortunately it was very difficult to get a photograph as he was late
so I let him go without hassle.
The next day whilst I was out looking for another rock star, I was at a hotel and who do I see………David Byrne, again! he walked out of the hotel
and as I checked the time I worked out that he as on his way to another one of his gigs. I kept my distance and watched, surprised yet again as I
witnessed him unlock his bicycle form a sign post and ride off, I managed to get these couple of dodgy photos, though im sure many wouldn’t quite
believe that this really is David Byrne.
