Story
Without doubt Cyndi is a huge 80’s icon of music, a definite
time I remember growing up and hearing her music, Cyndi’s
voice is incredible and still is today, I cant help but feel that
she really deserves more success, im pleased she has stuck around.
It was great knowing she would be in town during Feb 2008, I was
looking forward to meeting her and I really enjoyed doing this painting,
I received a lot of good comments on this portrait, people telling
me id really captured her look, so that was great to hear.
The evening of her show I waited for a few hours at the stage door,
when I arrived I could already hear Cyndi inside screaming along
at her sound check, it was like a private little show just not being
able to see her, I could hear it all, I wondered how she would get
through the concert singing this well just hours before, it taught
me how talented these people are to be able to do all that rehearsal
just hours before and then do it all again for an audience. Now
that’s talent !
As I heard the sound check finish I was hoping Cyndi would leave
for a while, but I didn’t see anything, eventually a couple
more hours later Im standing there hearing the real concert begin.
I received a tip, telling me that Cyndi was not using the usual
entry or exit that most performers use, and I was given information
telling me where she was staying in Sydney. I chose to head there
and try to meet her after the show. When the concert finished I
looked around the side of the venue to see the stage door entry
and there was swarms of fans waiting for Cyndi, more than id seen
for anyone in a long time, I was amazed and pleased that Cyndi had
a great fan base still.
I headed back to the hotel and was the only one there waiting,
Cyndi arrived at around midnight she looked amazing, and very attractive,
she’s so girlie. I cant believe she’s really the age
she is, I offered her my work, she took the time to look and was
great, she made me feel like she didn’t want to take my work
given the effort id put in to create it, but I told her she was
welcome too, she said she will sign for me and so she did, then
to my surprise she asked if I did this a lot. I told her id done
a few now for my heroes and that it felt good to be able to give
something back to say thankyou for the music. (not to quote Abba
!) She appeared genuinely interested and then shocked me again by
asking if I had a business card, I was stunned so I fumbled in my
bag for a card all the time she waited as I apologised for holding
her up. I gave her my card and she thanked me saying, “ I’ll
give you a call “ ! Now if you thought I was shocked before
imagine how that felt !. Its been 2 days since I wrote this, and
I haven’t received that call, I wont hold her to it, but still,
ive learnt the future is always unexpected, you just never know
whets around the corner.
