Story
A legend, by the time Ferry showed up on the tour list for Sydney,
Australia, I was beginning to be surprised by the amount of bands
and legends touring all of a sudden. It seemed like everyone was
coming over here and I was wondering how I will keep up painting
them all.
I painted Ferry for his November 07 tour and had received a tip
off as to where Bryan was staying whilst in Sydney, I spent 5 hours
on the eve of his show waiting for him, I saw his band and entourage
all leave but no sign of Mr Ferry, even up to minutes before I knew
he’d have to be going on stage, I was wondering where he was
and asked myself if he would take an alternative ’secret’
exit to avoid the small group of fans waiting for him. I’d
heard good stories about Bryan with his fans and didn’t think
he would go out of his way to avoid us, yet it turned out to be
that this is what happened. I had to decide whether or not to go
to the venue and try to meet Bryan leaving after his gig or wait
again at the hotel for him to come back. I chose to wait at the
hotel.
Whilst waiting I found out I was now waiting at the wrong place!
I couldn’t believe it so I rushed to the supposed correct
place and waited for another 3 hours after I’d heard Bryan
had finished his show. Still no sign of Bryan Ferry! I was tired
and hungry so I turned in for the night and planned to try the next
day.,
On the next day I didn’t want to lose out so I thought it
would be better to go to the venue and try to meet him entering
for his show. I arrived and was the only person waiting for him,
I was there for 4 hours, during which time I found out that I was
at the correct hotel the first time, and Mr Ferry did take a ‘back
door ’ so in effect I had waited the second time at a wrong
hotel for hours with absolutely no chance of seeing Ferry.
Eventually Bryan showed up and pleasantly came over to me to sign
my painting, true to what I’d heard of his treatment to his
fans he was very kind he even gave me free tickets to his show!
This was great, it made all the waiting feel worth while, unfortunately
I had nobody with me to take a picture but to be honest, by this
point I didn’t care too much for a photo.
