About Me

I was born in Birmingham, United Kingdom mid September 1974, I was fortunate to develop an early talent in Art with a natural ability to draw, and all through my school years I was often being asked to draw for people. After my high school equivalent I was encouraged to follow my talent, something I am now thankful of, for at the time I remember I wanted to become a chef !

I enrolled at an Art & Design school in the U.K and spent a few years studying different areas of Art and Photography. Painting was a medium of art which I never thoroughly enjoyed, I felt I was never really able to control the paint brush the same way as a pencil and therefore preferred the latter.

Later, in my early twenties I moved to Sydney, Australia to follow other career dreams after deciding that to pursue art full time was going to be a difficult task. After all, you don’t see many job offers for painters and it was going to cost me money I didn’t have to try and promote myself and get myself recognised. I worked in a professional field for a number of years, not touching a paint brush for quite some time.

Fast forward to early 2005. I was encouraged by my wife to begin painting once again and to try and follow my dreams. So I decided to start by painting portraits as I found this the most challenging to do, one that I still don’t feel I can do to my own satisfaction. I still believe that a truly great artist is one who can produce a portrait of a recognisable face, to be able to paint a face from ones imagination takes away a lot of the challenge in painting the face to begin with. Once you have some what mastered portraits that are recognisable, anything else you choose to paint relies on an idea to make it appealing. I chose to mix it with my love of music. I have always enjoyed music and learning about the great rock and roll stars of our time so I started by painting my all time favourite band, The Rolling Stones, this leading to a chain reaction as I continued to paint all the other musicians I favoured. As I showed my paintings to my friends and family I found myself being encouraged to show my works to the public and was being commissioned to paint for others.

I work mostly with acrylic paints on canvas and have primarily stayed with shades of black and white. I find these colours to be the most powerful as they are timeless and allow the final paintings to be presented in any surrounding décor. You will find this website focuses only on my black and white pieces, in addition I have added a small series of photographs that I have taken at various performances. I hope that you will enjoy browsing through my collection.
